I am the Director of Communications at Moredun Research Institute and have a strong interest in science communication, knowledge exchange and education. I have also retained my involvement in research focusing on the infectious diseases of livestock and currently lead a group at Moredun, looking at developing solutions to control diseases caused by protozoan parasites. I am a biochemist in The Rowett Institute with an interest in mechanisms of body weight regulation and how to improve diets and prevent obesity. I have over 20 years of experience investigating food-gut-brain signalling with a recent focus on dietary fibre that can promote feelings of satiety and reduce food intake. My research via the Strategic Research Programme aims to help to improve the health of the Scottish population, particularly in the most deprived areas where poor diets and obesity are common.
