The conference is hosted by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and further supported by Scottish Natural Heritage, the Centre for Edinburgh Conservation Science, the British Ecological Society Scottish Policy Group, RSPB, the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.

This conference will consider some of the new challenges facing biodiversity conservation and the novel and innovative solutions biodiversity science can offer.
The conference will run from 13:00, Monday, 5 November to 13:00, Tuesday, 6 November. It will focus on four main themes:
- Species health and management
- Landscape scale conservation
- Climate change
- Public engagement
Each session will include an overview keynote presentation, detailed talks on specific issues and short speed talks. You can view the full conference programme here while more information can be found here.
Jane Smart, Global Director, IUCN Biodiversity Conservation Group and Director, IUCN Global Species Programme will be providing the keynote presentation.
SEFARI expertise will be well-represented at the conference. Ruth Mitchell, James Hutton Institute, will be chairing a session on species health and management including Chris Quine, Forest Research and the Plant Health Centre who will speak about the current issues in species management, and managing for resilience; and Gerry Sadler, SASA, who inform attendees on the activities of the recently established Plant Health Centre. Davy McCracken, SRUC is participating in a session on landscape scale conservation and will speak about working with land managers to deliver at a landscape scale. Chris Ellis, Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh will be chairing a session on climate change which will feature a talk from Rebecca Artz, James Hutton Institute, about peatland restoration and climate change mitigation.
Please note you will need to register separately to attend the evening event on 5 November - there is no extra cost for attending this event. In the event of oversubscription for the evening event preference will be given to those also attending the main SBS Biodiversity Science Conference.
