A SEFARI Specialist Advisory Group was established to understand the level of risk of the most prevalent pharmaceuticals found in the environment as a result of (human) clinical use in the Scottish environment. Veterinary pharmaceuticals were not considered in this project. A literature review was conducted to determine the most common pharmaceuticals found in both the terrestrial and aquatic environments in Scotland, review their potential fate and impact and conduct an environmental risk assessment using the data from the literature review.
