Novel genetic technique for improving barley

"We believe our new genotyping array will underpin global barley breeding for several years to come" On Burns Night, let’s raise a dram to better barley: scientists of Dundee’s International Barley Hub have developed an innovative genotyping array that allows the detailed genetic characterisation of any individual barley variety. The array reveals diagnostic variation at almost 50,000 unique positions across the barley genome in a single test, almost ten times more than current technology. Soil research collaboration findings relevant to landmine clearing and fracking

“This work demonstrates the importance and impact of experts working together across disciplines, for instance, chemistry, explosives science, soil science and forensic science,” Blowing up landmines and other undetonated explosives may be safer and more environmentally friendly than physically removing them from contaminated land, according to new research carried out by the University of Dundee, in partnership with colleagues at the James Hutton Institute, Curtin University and ChemCentre, Australia.
