Date & Time

Details

The Scottish Government invites experts and industry leaders to collaborate in shaping the transition away from a linear 'take-make-dispose' model and towards a truly circular economy, where waste is transformed into valuable resources. By working together, we can unlock new economic opportunities, enhance resource efficiency, and position Scotland as a global leader in sustainable innovation.

A key obstacle to this ambitious goal is the presence of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) found in older electrical equipment and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) used in flame retardants. These harmful substances contaminate materials and prevent them from being effectively recycled.

SEFARI Gateway, Scotland’s Centre of Expertise on Knowledge Exchange, would like to invite you to a networking event on the 19th of March 2025 in Edinburgh, focused on discussing the challenges of POPs in Scotland and informing policy development. During the workshop, our Specialist Advisory Group (SAG) (led by the James Hutton Institute) will share insights on emerging technologies and practices for managing POP-containing materials and seek input from industry experts on practical opportunities and limitations of applying these within the Scottish context.

Event location: 16 St Mary's St, Edinburgh EH1 1SU

This is an invite-only hybrid event. A link to the online broadcast will be provided to those unable to attend in person.
