Biography

I'm an Environmental Social Scientist at the James Hutton Institute and part of the Social Economic and Geographical Science (SEGS) group. Prior to joining JHI, I was a Social Scientist in the Society and Environment Research Group (SERG) at Forest Research. I am an interdisciplinary sustainability scientist who works at the interface(s) of policy, science, practice and education. I combine in-depth qualitative approaches and methodologies with thematic analysis, iterative theorisation and evaluation approaches. My PhD research drew on social learning theories such as Communities of Practice and Landscapes of Practice applied to forestry and integrated natural resource management. I have a keen interest in researching the social learning capability of complex and embedded social-ecological systems and identifying adaptive approaches to landscape management in the context of epistemic uncertainty, value plurality and increasing complexity.
