The Royal Highland Show – The Full Picture

As the SEFARI Knowledge Exchange Sectorial Lead for Soils and Crops, Ken's particularly interested in how plant roots play a critical role in mechanically stabilising soil, so he never thought he’d be enlisting the help of a Pufferfish to communicate research! Pufferfish, however, offered the opportunity to use 360 o virtual interactive technology to help bring to life not only the work of SEFARI, but also that of Scotland’s Centres of Expertise. The centres help bring together, and translate, research whilst also responding to threats relevant to their areas of expertise. In total there are 4

Scotland's Food Future: Showcase at the Scottish Parliament

Scotland’s thriving food and drink industry is a major contributor to the economy, worth £14 billion each year. "It is a great example of the long-standing partnership between the University of Dundee-Plant Sciences and the James Hutton Institute" Research by a group of scientists from the University of Dundee and the James Hutton Institute, along with partners from Glasgow and Durham universities, has found that a genetic process known as alternative splicing has a massive effect on the response of plants to stress from cold temperatures. The paper -published in the American Society of Plant Biologists’ journal The Plant Cell - is already proving very influential and attracting wide interest. Related

A One-stop Shop Helping Safeguard Scotland Against Plant Health Threats

By Professor Ian Toth, Head of the Plant Health Centre The creation of our new Plant Health Centre for Scotland could not be timelier. Plants are integral to our daily lives - they regulate our climate, they nourish us, they characterise our landscapes and provide the raw materials that support our economy. We risk losing these benefits if we do not respond effectively to the new plant pests and diseases threatening our borders. With increased trade with the rest of the UK, and potentially a whole new level of trade with the rest of the world following Brexit, the risk and disruption caused by
