James Hutton Group welcomes UK-China seed potato deal

Views sought on attitudes towards future of dairy farming in UK and Ireland

Scottish hops a viable commercial crop, Hutton research finds

"We are now proud to pass the baton to farmers, brewers and researchers, who will hopefully take Scottish hops to the next stage of development" After a four-year trial which saw the first harvest of Scottish hops in recent decades, scientists from the James Hutton Institute have created a practical guide booklet for farmers interested in growing the crop, which highlights its commercial potential in Scotland. A well-known researcher at Scotland’s Rural College has been named as the new Scientific Director of the Scottish Consortium for Rural Research (SCRR).

Scotland 2030: Our Food Future

This event will include a series of short presentations and a panel discussion, which will look to bring in the audience throughout, making the event as participative as possible. The panel is composed of Wendy Russell, Rowett Institute; Pete Ritchie, Nourish Scotland; and Cate Devine, the food writer. Wendy Russell will bring to the table her research on plant proteins and how they can contribute more in the future to the human diet in terms of nutritional value, while Pete Ritchie will talk about Nourish Scotland's 2030 Food Atlas project – their vision of a sustainable food system in 2030
